MY RESEARCH

I am researching and studying the conflict landscapes of southern Jordan , covering the period of the first two decades of the 20th century. During this period the Hejaz Railway was built thought the area and there was a build-up of Ottoman forces in the period leading to the start of the First World War. From 1916 to 1918 the region was the backdrop to the Great Arab Revolt when the Arab forces lead by Prince Feisal and supported by the British though T.E Lawrence (of Arabia).
My research includes looking to the archaeology of this period through historical documentation in the archives , including maps and photographs produced by the Royal Flying Corps. The information from these sources is combined with modern satellite imagery to help find the archaeology on the ground.
My own research is combined with that of the Great Arab Project and I visit southern Jordan each year as a member of that team.
